Comshare's Distributor in Japan Launches BudgetPLUS; Comshare and Beacon Open Japan's Market for Management Planning and Control Applications

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 1999--Comshare(R) Inc. announced that Beacon Information Technology (Tokyo, Japan) will resell Comshare BudgetPLUS(TM) in Japan. Comshare is a leading provider of software solutions for management planning and control (MPC), which includes planning, budgeting, financial consolidation, management reporting and analysis. Beacon IT will sell BudgetPLUS to large and medium-sized corporations as part of its total accounting systems solutions. BudgetPLUS complements Beacon's current product offering, and will be sold by Beacon directly and through its network of alliance partners in Japan.

"Japan has the second-largest economy in the World, and even though it is still in recession, many believe Japan's economy is well on its way to recovery," said Dennis Ganster, Comshare president and CEO. "In addition, changes are underway to adopt international accounting standards and budgeting processes. As a result, companies see the need for the MPC applications, and particularly budgeting. BudgetPLUS, which supports languages that require multiple bytes of memory to store individual characters, like Japanese, is ideally suited to support the budgeting and reporting needs of Japanese companies."

Meeting Japan's Business Needs

The introduction of international accounting standards is a important issue in Japan. Financial consolidation -- a prerequisite for large corporations -- naturally requires robust budgeting and reporting systems to give Japanese companies the level of planning and control they now seek. Comshare BudgetPLUS is a superior planning and budgeting system that will speed up the planning process, analyze revenue, expenses, cost of sales and other financials, and provide extensive plan-to-actual reporting for each business group together with financial database for the next planning cycle.

Comshare BudgetPLUS is an integrated planning, budgeting, reporting and analysis application that improves productivity, shortens the planning cycle, and enhances the quality and usability of planning information. Unlike spreadsheets, BudgetPLUS manages and controls the entire planning process, cutting the time and effort needed to complete the budgeting cycle. Comshare BudgetPLUS is fully Web-architected, runs on mainstream relational and multidimensional databases, and is designed to be "Ready-to-Go" with built-in best practices and packaged budgeting analysis. BudgetPLUS can be implemented using client/server, Web or an optimal mix of both technologies.

Comshare BudgetPLUS will be sold by Beacon IT's Enterprise Data Warehousing Division. Comshare BudgetPLUS will be priced starting from Yen 6,000,000. Beacon IT is targeting 10 sales this financial year.
