In my own case, I really don't have much of a choice. I edit video once in a while. I can choose between NT/W2K, a Mac G4, which is an even bigger POS than a Windows machine, and pro equipment that, while I could afford it, would be pretty wasteful and shameless for a "patzer". I need my machine to know about USB. I would like it to shut down my power-hungry monitors when they're not in use. I might like to play a 3D game on it once in a while. I must have dual-processor support and Adobe After Effects. I spend my time in the browser, except during those times when I'm using more compute power than any affordable machine on the market can provide.

I basically have to buy W2K and hope that it works. I expect W2K fixes to be flying out of the back end of the Windows Update website like Fleet Phospho Soda for a couple of years, but I'm getting it anyway.
