Good Infoworld Article Re: Security 12/20/99
The 12/20 Infoworld Security Watch column is definitely worth a read. It's entitled, "After Y2K will security garner the attention it deserves, or will it be just another task?"
"We've been patient, waiting our turn as the year-2000 hurdle is cleared, and looking forward to the promise that security will finally be given the serious attention it deserves. Have we been right in predicting a glorious dawn of a new era of secure computing, or will IT simply make security another check box in their infinite to-do list...?"

"You would have to be living under a rock for the past five years not to realize the risk of poorly secured systems. This column frequently highlights the techniques surrounding security attacks. But the real issue with security is not that all computers will be broken into (that's fear, uncertainty, and doubt in its purest form), rather that computers CAN be broken into without breaking a sweat."

"Both at the system and application levels, bypassing security is currently too simple. IT's focus will have to turn to security simply to create the perception privacy within e-commerce is real. Too many livelihoods are riding on the e-commerce bandwagon for it to fail. And if the Internet and e-commerce is to succeed, security will have to take priority."
