More on early anticipation. It looks like on average the short term peak in price is 6 trading days before earnings, whereas the minimum price was at 13 days. Of course there is great variation between individual stocks and over different time periods. In November, there were hardly any pullbacks, and nearly half of the Earnings Plays peaked right before earnings. So my observation here is very general in nature, but possibly something to build on.
