Good afternoon, dear lady. A couple of observations: Re the inveighing of some clerics at the use of Xmas: It has to do with merchants' use of it commercially. They think it is "taking the Christ out of Christmas" and turning it into wholly commercial occasion. Personally, I think that they are being silly, that the focus and awareness of the personal giving aspects of Christmas are alive in many people--even those who are not religious and those of other faiths. I used to celebrate Chanukah with a neighbor who celebrated Christmas with me. She helped me select a tree and drag the monster home and decorate it; I gave her the menorah she treasures. We did not have the same religious beliefs, but we shared a respect and a cherishing of family traditions and meaning for both of us. I have friends who are Moslem, from Pakistan, who cherish the personal warmth of Thanksgiving and Christmas, regardless of the origins. One does not have to believe in the divinity of Christ to feel joy at any reminder to give thanks for the happinesses we have and to be kind and thoughtful of one another. Some of the holiday greetings did appear sarcastic and/or ironic. Some were not.
