Consider the various forms of telepresence to enumerate a list of demanding applications. Imagine 3D live NetMeeting. I was shopping at Amazon today. I wanted to pick up items and look at them carefully. I wanted to feel them, in several senses. I wanted to do this with a friend ... walking the aisles of an otherwise empty store.

Ya'll have only been considering the leaves of the tree ... the bandwidth demands of individual user source/sinks.

What happens in the world of "infinite" bandwidth when 100-200M 10Mbps users start interacting with a like order of servers?

Consider the points of interaction and I think you'll see that even terabit pipes gag quickly and we're right back where we are today ... at a new level.

Will the new level be "better" ... more "meaningful" ... more evolutionarily adaptive to the species?

Well, here we are again at "truth".

One thing's for sure, the relative distribution of optimism and misanthropy will probably not be substantially affected.
