Mantra Online crosses the 50,000 mark

New Delhi, Dec 20

Mantra Online, the country's first multinational Internet service provider (ISP), has crossed the 50,000-subscriber mark less than six months after its launch.

Mantra Online is currently present in three cities, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, and has plans to expand to another 12 cities soon.

"Despite a late-mover disadvantage, lack of our own gateway and competition from players who command the telecom infrastructure, Mantra Online has gained popularity due to features like single number access and a 24-hour customer care. At this juncture, no private ISP commands it's own gateway or carriers. Therefore, it was important for us to focus on easier, faster and reliable connectivity, off-the-shelf availability with the widest range of price plans and 24-hour customer care," N Arjun, CEO, Bharti-BT Internet Limited (BBIL), said.

The company is investing Rs 50 crore to deploy technology over the first 18 months. "We are looking at doubling our subscriber base over the next six to eight months by more aggressive retailing and expansion into more cities shortly," Arjun said in a release today.

Bharti BT Internet Ltd is a joint venture company of Bharti Enterprises, a telecommunications conglomerate, and British Telecom, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. UNI
