Interesting that Nextel is becoming more and more aggressive in there quest for more spectrum.I asked I.Jacobs in the special shareholders meeting (avail for replay) what it would take for an IDEN network like Nextels to convert to CDMA.He stated that the only way it could be done is if Nextel obtained more spectrum, as there current offering is such a narrow slice of spectrum ,that there is no way it could ever become CDMA.This proprietary TDMA that there IDEN network uses must be greatly limited and they are thirsty for new spectrum. The sixty four million dollar question is will they be planning a CDMA use for that new spectrum when added to there existing spectrum therefore cannibalizing the old TDMA and ushering in CDMA.Hopefully Nextwave will rid themselves of this threat with the new infusion of capital but if Nextwave fails at this attempt then at least maybe there is hope that Nextel won't waste there limited TDMA on perfectly good spectrum.
