Summary of systems being sold in San Diego by small computer
stores which build their own computers. The following
summarizes the types of computer systems being advertised
in the weekly ComputorEdge flyer -- a free publication in
San Diego county.
Publication Date: 12/17 12/10 11/19 11/05 10/22
Number of storefronts: 37 34 32 34 32
Athlon systems: 62% 68% 66% 62% 50%
Athlon 700 systems: 41% 44% 44% 21% 0%
Athlon 750 systems: 14% 3% 0% 0% 0%
PIII systems: 95% 97% 97% 100% 100%
PIII Coppermine>=600MHz:19% 15% 0% 0% 0%
PIII Coppermine 733MHz: 5% 3% 0% 0% 0%
Celeron systems: 95% 97% 84% 71% 91%
K6-2 systems: 73% 71% 72% 82% 81%
K6-3 systems: 49% 65% 53% 68% 62%

Note: totals are based on machine configurations actually
advertised in the ComputorEdge with a retail price.

Trends
------
The % selling Athlon systems is down slightly because a few
extra builders show up this time of year building the
least common denominator of systems: lower grade Celeron,
K6-2 and PIII systems. On the positive side, there are
almost as many dealers selling Athlon 750 systems as
any variety of Coppermine system, and Athlon
systems outnumber Coppermine by better than 3:1. There was a
definite drop in K6-3 systems, 65% to 49%.
