RESEARCH IN MOTION OPENS R&D CENTER IN KANATA

KANATA, ON, Dec 22, 1999 /CNW-PRN via COMTEX/ -- Research In Motion
(Nasdaq: RIMM, TSE:RIM) today announced the opening of a research and
development facility in Kanata, Ontario, a high-technology hotbed in
the Ottawa region. The new R&D center will complement the growing
engineering teams at RIM's headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario and
contribute to the fulfilment of RIM's expansive business plans. RIM
will continue to focus on wireless data technology and the development
of revolutionary information appliances that improve the way people
communicate and interact with digital information. RIM is currently
recruiting for a wide range of positions at both the Kanata and
Waterloo locations.
