jttmab, you are of course right...i should have formulated my statement a bit differently perhaps. what i meant was specifically the Fed's interference in the interest rate setting process. imo interest rates should be left to the free market exclusively and not a bunch of bureaucrats. one would also have to look a bit more closely at what the FOMC does aside from setting the funds rate, like flooding the market with fiat money. while the stock market is certainly delighted that the Fed has been engaging in this practice with abundance over the past few years, it is highly questionable whether the economy was served well by this in the LT.
we can discuss this in more detail later on, but my main point remains: why should a handful of essentially unaccountable bureaucrats determine what the 'correct' interest rate for money is? we would be better off if this were left to the markets.
