Hi George ~ you are, no doubt, already in pre-op for your tympanoplasty. I hope the surgery goes well. I have no idea what's involved, or how long it will be until you return to posting, but I will be watching for your return.
With respect to the discussion you and Christine were having about Christian services in the Parthenon, I agree with Christine that places that are sacred to one religion shouldn't be used as a forum for the services of another religion. The distinction to be drawn with such places as the Parthenon and Stonehenge might be that the people who used to worship there are dead. Nevertheless, I think it would be wrong to have Christian services in Stonehenge, or Delphi, or in the Great Pyramid, or any other place that has a strong sacred relationship with another religion, even though the members of the religion are dead.
It also bothers me that Hagia Sophia was converted to a mosque by Mehmet the Conqueror, although when it was built, some of the columns were taken from the Diana temple in Ephesus, so I guess the Christians couldn't complain without being hypocrites. |
