Thanks Rod for your concern.

But the guy asked how to boot his machine in Linux and a few people were telling him to use lilo. I wanted to explain to him that it is more difficult then it sounded by describing the procedures that could be used. I know it is beyond your comprehension, but I was able to create those procedures without copying from reference books! Twice in the message, at the top and bottom, I told him to call Corel Technical Support.

Ok, now for your other accusations. You say he did not say he was using dos (and I guess this is what got you all in a ruffle). Yes, that is correct but he did say he was trying to install it on the D: drive which is DOS/Windows terminology. In Linux you would never say "D Drive" but /dev/hdb. So in the end of the message I told him how to restore the Master Boot Record incase he screws up his entire system trying to use lilo. If he was not using DOS, he can simply ingore it - and not effect the procedure!

The purpose of the message was to describe the procedures required to demonstrate it is not an easy task and he should obtain technical support!

And while I do agree it was a little out of place to ask for help in this message board, I still find it useful. Today Corel's stock is down (just like yesterday and the day before :-( ). But the real question is will it be down a year from now? Who will be the dominant Linux provider a year from now? Can Linux be used to thwart Microsoft? In this respect, it is quite helpful to hear what type of troubles people are having with the operating system. His problem was clearly caused by a bug in the Corel installation procedures. They did not take into account that it may be possible that a person would want to install the software on a different drive besides the boot drive. Corel's claim is it is the easiest Linux to install for the desktop. With issues as described above, it that true? Do other vendors have similar problems? Will this effect the effort to replace Windows?
