Features of the ETX5000TM The ETX5000TM is the first member of the ETX family of "Class-Independent" telephony switches. It implements both voice and data switching, and provides large-scale, high-quality voice, fax, and VPNs. The ETX5000TM utilizes high performance switching and computing elements and offers broadband network interfaces. High network availability is assured through robust management, fully redundant equipment, and hot-swap support for all Universal Service Modules (USM). The platform's compact design delivers unmatched value in terms of capacity per dollar, watt, and square foot of floor space.
PSTN/Voice Network Interfaces The ETX5000TM connects to Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) voice networks through: DS3, E3 or STS-1 electrical interfaces, or OC-3 or OC-12 SONET optical interfaces.
Data Network Interfaces The ETX5000TM is designed to operate with IP-based data networks. It supports 100 Base-T Ethernet interfaces for connection to backbone routers and OC-3c and OC-12c SONET interfaces capable of providing both ATM and Packet-over-SONET data communication protocols.
Voice Features The ETX5000TM performs a number of important voice processing functions including voice compression, silence suppression, echo cancellation and comfort noise generation. The ETX5000TM gateway supports several standards-based encoder/decoder (codec) algorithms including G.711, G.723.1 and G.729A, and also has the capability to support proprietary codecs that are optimal for certain network applications.
Call/Service Control Service control is accomplished through the SPITM described in the Enhanced Telephony Xchange Architecture. The SPITM actuates services delivered through ETX5000TM interfaces to the customer and core networks. Multiple device control protocols including Internet Protocol Device Control (IPDC), Simple Gateway Control Protocol (SGCP) and Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) are supported via the SPITM. To further enhance the flexibility of the ETX5000TM, the SPITM supports the ability to define extensions to the standard protocols or develop new message classes.
Management The ETX5000TM provides both Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) management capabilities and a versatile command line interface. The platform provides Telnet and FTP support for accessing the command line interface and for transferring log and configuration files over an IP network. Common Management Information Protocol/Common Management Information Services (CMIP/CMIS) support can be accomplished with a proxy that provides a CMIS MIB and interacts with the ETX5000TM through SNMP.
Pricing and Availability The ETX5000TM offers industry leading carrier-class functionality and scalability at a low price. The SALIX ETX5000TM will be deployed in customer beta sites in the first quarter of 1999. General customer availability begins later in the year. The cost per system starts at $100,000, depending upon the configuration. |
