Heinz:

The only thing I can recall even remotely similar to this internet mania was the gambling stock bubble of the late 1970s. When gambling was legalized in Atlantic City, many investors saw this as the beginning of a national trend and gambling stocks went absolutely NUTS. The stocks of some major casino operators when up 1000% or more in a year.

At the peak of the frenzy if a company announced it was CONSIDERING opening a casino in Atlantic City, the stock would often double or triple overnight.

SOUND FAMILIAR

Of course the gambling stocks bubble was tiny compared to the internet craze. I doubt if all the gambling stocks combined had a market value of even $25 billion at the peak.
