I could say "You guys have no idea..."

But I would probably be more on target if I said "You guys really know..."

So, I will: You guys, Ed-A, penni, and Cobalt (is that the same as Cobe?), really know how words of concern, thought, and affection as you have just expressed can spike right through - and melt the heart of hapless hermit!

As briefly as possible: I had a double myringotomy two years ago. This puts little holes in the eardrums, and then puts little tubes in these holes - so anything nasty in the inner or middle ear can drain out, and be gone for ever. Well, I had a crappy double myringotomy. The holes didn't close, leaving my eardrums without the functional membranes they use to vibrate into sound. The tympanoplasty snips off a bit of lobe, a trivial step really. Then it applies this 'fat patch' over the holes in the drums. My right ear had this done several months back, with no anaesthesia. I tensed and twisted and jerked as if I were in that famed Florida electric chair. The results, though, allowed sound to be produced, and a pretty fair ability to talk on the phone and all. Today, with a five-person staff and intevenous sedation, I had the other ear fat patched. This used to be the good ear. I must return for a check-up Friday. And I am ultimately, totally, enthusiastically optimistic about the outcome.

(Now wasn't that a jem of a bit of information to get sloshed on your plates!)

More. On returning here a short while ago, after more than four hours with the otiolar-or-whatever folk, I pulled out the piece of cotton that was stuck in the ear, and produced a considerable immediate seepage of blood and a stinging sensation. So I greased up a cotton ball of my own, put it back in, and offered thanks to the forests and fawns that Friday I will be checked over again. Also have been given a massive supply of antibiotics. It is not possible, is it, that I am the only person in the world who feels at times sheerly STUPID!

This is an intrusive, unnecessary elaboraton on the subject. But, all you guys read real fast - yes?

Thank you again, ever so deeply, for your posts!!!

Melted in the warmth of the moment you have given me,
