In KYO's favor, I would also like to point out there are two main forces behind the W-CDMA(or anti-CDMA2000) camp. NTT DoCoMo and the Europeans. This deal should pretty much put KYO and the soon-to-be-merged #2 and #3 cell providers in Japan in the drivers seat. I say DoCoMo is Toast.

IF Europe insists on proceeding down their course, whatever. They can remain in the technological woods.
