RESEARCH ALERT - Tellabs upgraded to buy CHICAGO, Dec 22 (Reuters) - ABN AMRO analyst Kenneth Leon said Wednesday he upgraded his rating of Tellabs Inc. <TLAB.O> to buy from outperform and selected the telecommunications equipment maker's stock as his top pick for year 2000. Leon said he is raising his 12-month price target to $90 from $70 and setting a 2001 earnings per share estimate of $2.25. He said Tellabs replaces Nortel Networks Corp. <NT.TO> as his top pick for next year. Leon said Tellabs' upcoming fourth-quarter earnings look "fine" and he is comfortable with the company meeting or exceeding his estimate of 40 cents a share. He also said 2000 should be another record year and he may revise his $1.69 a share 2000 earnings target upward as the year progresses.
