I agree with Anthony's assessment of EWEB but he is wrong about what happens in most of the Balkans (I have spent five years in Croatia and Bosnia). Local ISP's predominate, both public and private now. AOL and MSN were early favorites because no one else offered decent service. Now there are plenty of alternatives in former Yugoslavia. Anthony's experience was in Macedonia, a poor laggard in the region.

For EWEB to succeed they would have to roll up a large basket of these independent ISP's, much like MSPG or ELNK did in the US. They have always lacked the capital and management capacity to be more than a two-bit player in central Europe - Hungary, Czech, Slovakia.
