Don't ask why the difference... that's what they say on the back.

Maybe the EEs will jump in here and straighten this out. Until then, just assume the UPS output is a 'square' wave, while the electrical utilities generate 'sine' waves. Remember, alternating current values are expressed in RMS so they are equivalent to direct current values.

P.S. RMS: Root Mean Square, a calculation designed to consume engineering students' spare time before pocket calculators were invented. And it worked all too well.
