Regarding the rumor of her having her checkbook with her, she might have realized she was out of something when she went home, grabbed her checkbook to go to a neighborhood store. With her Yale ID, she would need nothing else. Is there a little store nearby?

There are two convenience stores nearby, both further up Elm Street. One would be just about on the corner of York and Elm (two blocks north), and the other would be on Broadway (one block northeast from the first store). If you look on a map, when Elm Street crosses York Street it forms a "V". There is a parking lot in the center of the V. Bearing right puts you on Broadway where there a bunch of stores and always lots of people. Continuing straight on Elm brings you by a small church and then a bank before you reach the end of Park Street, where Suzanne lived. That small stretch from York to Park is one I always avoided as it wasn't well lit. I never used the ATM at the bank as I feared getting mugged there at night. There's no evidence Suzanne got that far up Elm nor any evidence she took Elm at all, but it's still worth noting.
