IDS Arms World Security Agencies to Fight Global Terror
Toronto, Ontario--
IDS trace detection products powerful security weapons against new terrorist threats
IDS Intelligent Detection Systems Inc. (TSE: ISD) stated today that its Analytical & Security division has deployed hundreds of trace detection units worldwide in 1999 to meet the increasing global demand for effective security surveillance. In response to heightened public concern over recent arrests of terrorist suspects in the United States and official statements from the US government, IDS confirmed that its explosives detection systems are in place in key locations worldwide in order to secure facilities and protect lives.
Algerian national, Ahmed Ressam, linked to the terror network of Osama bin Laden, was arrested Monday attempting to cross the US-Canadian border with enough explosives to level an office building. Ressam is just one of the many threats to citizens around the world, threats that appear to be growing as the year-ends.
IDS's Analytical & Security division has, in the past several years, equipped many of the world's security with effective tools to prevent terrorist assaults such as those Ressam may have been planning. IDS's leading position in the explosives detection market is evidenced by the company's sales to key security organizations such as US Military, the FAA, NATO organizations, DND and the Los Alamos Laboratory. IDS products have been deployed worldwide in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The innovative technologies allow these detection units to sense traces and vapors of commercial and military explosives in quantities as low as parts per trillion, whether concealed on a person or within packages, luggage or vehicles. The technologies are also capable of detecting bacteriological, chemical and biological warfare agents that are the new tools in the arsenal of the world's terrorists.
IDS is the only company that produces a complete suite of detection devices, from standalone products to high throughput integrated systems. One product, the IDS EVD-3000 handheld explosives detection device, is the product of choice for law enforcement, security, and border control agencies around the world. This is demonstrated by a repeat order the company received this month for 39 EVD-3000 units to be delivered to an overseas client
IDS is confident that the deployment of its trace detection products and solutions throughout the world is enabling security agencies to reduce the threat posed by the possible increase in terrorist activities in the coming months.
