I'll agree that rubbing innocents' noses in the dirt is bad manners, but I don't think that applies to crooks. You say

Anyone long before the hype who simply sat and enjoyed suffered not at all. If he did good DD he sold at a handsome profit.

Reminds me of the story:

A man walking down the street picked up a silver dollar on the ground and went into the casino and put it in a slot machine, and won a jackpot. He took the proceeds and put it on a roulette number and won, and tried it again --- and lost.
On going home his wife asked how his day had been.
He said "I found a dollar but I lost it gambling."
