This is from the online Hollywood Reporter. As I'm not a subscriber I could only get the synopsis, not the full story.

MGM silent on Orion, Goldwyn
Amid a flurry of activity, it appears a merging of Metromedia
International Group's movie assets into MGM is moving closer to reality.
An MGM spokesman refused to comment on Sunday. However, some
studio insiders continued to insist there was no final agreement to bring
Orion Pictures and the Samuel Goldwyn Co. under the studio's banner.
Other sources said that negotiations are well advanced, and that MGM
chairman Frank Mancuso has taken a key role in the talks. The sources
said Mancuso has gone to his two primary backers with the idea. One of
them, Kirk Kerkorian, is said to be in favor of the acquisition; while the
other, the Seven Network Ltd. of Australia, is said to be more hesitant.
On Saturday, the New York Times reported that it is Kerkorian who is in
talks to acquire Orion and Goldwyn for about $300 million, primarily for
their valuable film libraries. (Stephen Galloway) Full story
