Up the 5000 yen limit to 77,800 Yen or $756 US equivalent. Some folks are theorizing that many of the stocks with big gains for 1999 will actually trade higher through the end of the year because people will hold off selling until January so that the capital gains taxes will not be due until next year. This could apply to many of the Internet Stocks and Softbank in particular. If so, the lack of sellers in late December could result in a year end up move which may then be followed by a January drop as people begin to take gains for the next tax year. This interesting theory might make it advantageous to sell some highly appreciated stocks in an IRA over the next few days and rebuy these same stocks in January. On the other hand, some folks got burned when they attempted to trade Softbank because the strong year long uptrend overpowered the small cyclical moves. Just a passing thought...
