>> When everything finally looked like it was going well, some guy whose first name coincides with my father's brother came along. He called QC a gorilla, or was it a king. Since both are on the edge of extinction, we figure that must be bad and held off in buying more.
Hi, Ramsey. I am guessing that your "father's brother" may be a reference to me, the Gorilla guy. It turns out there was something to that beast and royalty stuff after all, as it led the g&k gang to qcom, gmst, ntap, sebl, jdsu, and a number of other profitable investments. I've got to admit the results have surprised me. It's too bad we didn't manage to capture your interest, but it's never too late. If you'll PM me your address it would be my pleasure to send you a copy of The Gorilla Game so you can rtfm and give the g&k gang your impressions. Our mutual friend and Contrarian Supreme, Michael Burke, took me up on that offer last Spring, and though it didn't make a convert of him, he reported he had found some portions of interest.
I spent a lot of time in Japan before I quit the day job (11/17/99 thanks to Q), and was enchanted with the beauty of the country, particularly on the northern island of Hokkaido, and the courtesy of the people. After a while I realized that their word for foreigner, gaijin, has some negative connotations. It turns out that Japan is reserved for Japanese people, and no outsiders need apply, even if they speak and write Japanese and are long time students/practitioners of Nihon cultural mores. I sense that there are a few folks walking the Q boards that have similar biases against newbies/women/gurus/TA artists/etc., and can only say, Gaijin ga kirai de zannen da na!
