Ian, I think both Bruce and you are right on the use of Tencor tools. I added the back-end bit as an afterthought perhaps confused with Electroglas or some other company.

One can get a lot on Tencor's equipment by spending a few minutes clicking around www.tencor.com They have a product section organized by divisions and with descriptions of how/where the equipment is used.

In any case, the main purpose of my posting yesterday was to emphasize that there is a silver lining (a 25% one in that case) for semi equipment companies when announcements of fab delays are accompanied by statements of technology upgrade.
