Win 2000 is scheduled for public release Feb 17, 2000, I believe. And yes, it's for desktops. Note that Micron's quarter ends on Feb 28 +/-. I'm guessing that upgrading for Win2000 would have to take place before Feb 17 rather than after if people are seriously thinking about it.

However, I am also guessing that they can take a wait-and-see attitude instead of seriously thinking about it because of Y2K lockdown. Also note that any news or rumor of any delay whatsoever means that even people who want to upgrade will delay it until after the end of the current fiscal quarter.

I am running Linux, mainly to run Netscape. I had no discernable hard-disk swapping with two Netscape windows open when I had 32 MB, and after adding another 32 MB in the summer (for twenty bucks, hah!), I am able to keep five or six Netscape windows open before I start hearing the disk from time to time. If I wanted to build another computer but couldn't get cheap memory, I'd just cannibalize this one and still be fine with 32 MB.

Note that I cannot keep five or six Netscape windows open under Windows 95 or Windows 98 under any circumstances, with any amount of memory. It just drops dead. Sometimes it's nice enough to tell me, sometimes not. And despite what Microsoft wants me to believe, my experience is that any "exception error" in any application crashes the whole system.
