OK, then let's create a possible scenario.
The mania was already hightened before the encounter
First of all, let's keep in mind that everyone except the mentors at Best Buddies are mentally retarded. I suppose we could speculate one of them really liked Suzanne and felt he wasn't getting enough attention. Perhaps she felt sorry for him and made plans to spend a little extra time with him later that night after she returned the car and freed herself up. So either she plans to walk to his house or she plans to walk to a familiar spot where he would pick her up. He gets emotional, is unable to control himself, takes out his pen knife, she tries to console him rather than run, and he stabs her.
Once again, it's not hard to create a scenario that is possible, but the question we need to ask is whether it is probable? For example, here are some questions about the above:
1. Suzanne was asked several times about her plans. Why didn't she tell people she was going to meet a pal of hers from Best Buddies? (The other possibility is she was stalked but we've discussed the problems in general with this already at length.)
2. Can mentally retarded people drive? (Sorry for being ignorant on this)
3. Could a mentally retarded person keep such a terrible thing quiet for so long? I get the impression that most mentally retarded people are very very nice people who, like a child, might say something like "mommy, I did something bad..."
4. On a related note, would a mentally retarded person be able to cover things up? Wash blood out of the car if there were some, wash or throw out their clothes, not dispose of the murder weapon somewhere near the body, etc.?
5. Would a mentally retarded person "know enough" to slit someone's throat?
6. Could parents of a mentally retarded child who they thought killed someone keep it quiet?
7. Should we rule out the mentally retarded people at the party and just stick with those that were not, assuming there were others like that?
IMO, we need reasonable answers for these questions before we decide whether such a scenario is probable.
