"Armed Widow Foils Burglary." Tampa Tribune, 12/22/99. A shattering sound awoke Betty Kulas after midnight. In her living room, she discovered broken glass from her front door. She retreated to her bedroom and grabbed the handgun she keeps in her nightstand. She saw a man, and yelled: "What are you doing in my house?" She then fired 4 or 5 shots, striking the man once in the left arm as he ran out of her home. A half-hour later Sheriffs arrested the man and charged him with burglary of an occupied residence. After being treated for a gunshot wound, he was taken to jail and bail was set. His criminal record includes burglary.
