I do.
If you take the two statements together they say that the masses will not pay for broaband for the net as is, they need broadband applications. You need exactly a "compelling broadband experience". I'm not sure ATHM "gets it". Maybe they do and its just taking a while to develop.

You are dead on with your plans with the curious possible exception of this one:

crawl to AOL and offer them a free ride in exchange for other concessions to be negotiated

I know the market would love this, but I dont see the point. Do you really think so little of the power of broadband to capture users that AOL should be given access for free? What does AOL bring?

You think a "broadband experience" cant develop without AOL? Wont AOL have to create one anyway?

I fully agree with Grace:
Let AOL go head to head with Yahoo for content....
