That is one comprehensive, yet easy to follow explanation of how the IRS treats options. Your contribution is so invaluable; I am printing it for a reference. Option traders should know the consequensces of their actions, when and if one should close the position. There are only a few days left in 1999 when we must decide if we want to make the gains/loss this year or next. Your post is so timely.
