I was just Thinking.... Scott Greenberg
Dec 24 1999
I just wanted to take this time to perhaps, dig up some of the reasons why I (we) invest. There is no doubt all of us invest to try and maximize our gains, to gather the greatest possible wealth while taking into account our risk tolerance. Let us reverse engineer (solve starting at the end, and derive our way back to the beginning) the question. So, at the end, we assume that we have achieved the end goal of investing (maximizing returns) and we no longer have any need to acquire wealth. This wealth then can be used to make material acquisitions, provide us with more free time, or be given in the form of some gift. Generally, the majority of it (in one form or another) gets passed down to our families to show our Love and desire to provide for them.

It is that simple. We invest in order to express our Love. And the beauty of this is that it reveals, a great secret of life. That ultimately, if we had all the financial wealth we could imagine, it would allow us to give to our families what we already can. We have the opportunity to show our Love today, and to provide for our families by giving them some of our attention. To provide this Love, provides our families with a foundation that cannot be shaken no matter how badly the market crashes or our investing returns may be. So, take this day on which the markets are closed to give the gift you already have (even if your fund didn?t beat the S&P again this year). And know that all of us are the richest women and men in the world when we invest in the most basic form of wealth, by giving attention and acceptance to our loved ones.
