Dale, I recently completed a large e-commerce site for an ironware manufacturer in the Midwest. One of our conversations went something like this:

MrB: So Mr Client, do you use the net very much?
Client: A little. Really, my wife is doing most of our shopping online now.
MrB: What does she buy?
Client: Books, clothing, travel services and —— live chickens for our property.

When the net starts breaking down barriers in markets like live chickens, I think the fundamental future impact of the net is closer to your side of the argument. Similarly, I suppose that when radio was all that people had, nobody could really fathom the dominating power which television enjoys today.

I should have asked if the chickens arrived via FedEx. <gg>
