Tim, there is no need for you to defend yourself against anything I might say, least of all to me. If I criticize something you do, it does not mean that I'm making some kind of personal attack on you. You're a good guy, no argument there.

We have different views (it seems) as to how SI should be used. For example, I happen not to believe that any individual "owns" an SI thread. Anyone can start a thread, and on many threads the persons who started them are long gone and forgotten.

I can understand that if you start a thread, and nurture it along, you might come to feel some paternal instincts over it, and a desire to shape and control it. But I don't think that is what SI had in mind in the first place.

In my view, once you launch a thread on some interest topic, after that it's open season for any and all to come along and express their views. What I'm saying is that the originator of the thread has no more special standing than anyone else who happens to drop in.

I don't have any special standing, either. So people can agree with me (as some have) or flame me (as many have). Hey, it's the American way!

You've put a lot of your time and energy into this board, many here love you for it, and more power to you all. All I want to do is say what I think, when the mood strikes me.

I sincerely hope that you had a great Christmas, and I wish you all the best for the New Year.

J.C.
