WaveRider and Voice Mobility Inc. Announce Voice Over Internet
Joint Development Agreement Strategic partnership is the first step
in dramatically expanding WaveRider's wireless infrastructure offerings

TORONTO, May 18, 1999 -- WaveRider Communications Inc. (OTC BB: WAVC, Frankfurt WVR.FSE), a leading
global provider of wireless Internet products, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Voice Mobility Inc.,
a unified messaging company, to launch a joint wireless Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) development
initiative. Under the terms of the agreement, the two
companies will create a product that will enable real-time wireless voice, fax, video and data communications
using the Internet. The product is scheduled for commercial release by the end of next year.
VoIP manages the delivery of voice communications using the Internet, allowing users to place long distance
calls without incurring traditional telephone toll charges. Industry sources estimate the VoIP market will reach
$200 billion by year 2005 and that up to 25 per cent of voice traffic will be on the Internet, making it one of the
most attractive and fastest growing market segments in telephony.
