The opinion of Yale students:

A relative of mine {hereafter, "S."} is a Yale Senior. Yesterday, we talked about Suzanne Jovin's murder. S. was not in the same "college" as SJ and did not personally know her, but knew of her. Briefly:

1. The murder and aftermath was the biggest news story at Yale all year.

2. The students recognize the lack of important facts. Based on the known facts, the collective student body does not believe there is sufficient evidence to suspect that James Van de Veld committed the murder.

3. A majority of the students are of the opinion that the Yale administration shouldn't have cancelled J. VdV's classes. College students have many challenges, commitments and involvements. S. is on the council of one of the major representative student groups. The subject was discussed at the time it occurred. Although they think the class cancellations were improper and unfair to J.VdV, and several students voiced their objections, it was not sufficiently significant to the collective student body for them to rally, or take similar action.

4. The students do not possess any facts additional to the ones published.

5. The students theorize that SJ was on foot and knew her attacker; however, S. commented that "knowing the attacker" is generally considered the result of the media.

6. Many students feel that the YDN has not been unbiased in its reporting about this crime and the investigation.
