That's exactly the point you're missing, Simple. Everyone proffited from the Oil biz, in quality of life and bank account. Remember, all those gas stations and manufacturing plants and highway bills created JOBS! Jobs, profits, capital goods and savings utilised create a vibrant ecomomy, and improve life in ways not concieved of in advance. And that is precisely what is going on today in the gloabalization of the ecomomy. The point that many of these companies will probably go bankrupt is a very interesting point. Like the railways, there will be shakeouts and unforseen consequences... The gravy train rides on until an event blows up the tracks.
