Let me tell you of how God works with weakness and pride. When I first heard of Hallal music, we were meeting on Thursday nights at a Holiday Inn to try to draw those that would not come to a ""church building"" One of our song leaders came in with a cd of Hallal and told us that we just had to hear this. We were all impressed with the cut " Victory Chant" and learned it that evening.
As it turned out Ken Young the leader of Hallal was to be at Ruidoso that May to do a three day praise service. So we made plans to go, and let me tell you the tears came. In waves in buckets in streams, for so many of us that were dry from tradition. I even had to face the minister from my old congregation and ask for his forgiveness for speaking ill of him, he was very gracious to forgive me.
To make a long story even longer, since I suffer from severe emphysema i have real problems with exhaling air. Old air gets trapped in my lungs so it is hard to get a fresh breath. WELL GUESS WHAT!!!!! SINGING EXPELS OLD AIR.
So the plot thickens. KEN YOUNG moves from Dallas to Midland, Tx. that summer, (yeah I know the mecca of recording artists) haha and comes to the congregation that we were worshipping with. So I try out for the worship teams and it is a year before Ken lets me sing. By then he realizes that I can also sing bass an octave lower than most basses. (He likes that) so I get to sing now on worship teams , on some special music, such as Ruidoso(can't now because of my lungs won't take that altitude) and community Thanksgiving services, etc. But I do not record with them, (and do not want to, as it is too demanding) BUT here is the part I was telling you early about how God had put up with my pride and weakness. God knew when I got to sing that I would get selfish, and want to sing all the time and not want anyone to take my place. YET HE still let me sing and have my time, and now it is such a pleasure to worship HIM in song, whether I am singing on a mike or just in the audience. I am learning my limitations and still see that God has given some SO much talent, that they use it to glorify HIM is great to me.
That He would put up with me, and still love me is AMAZING GRACE INDEED!!
