Carrier upgrade to all-Optical Networking backbone is happening lot faster than what most analysts assumed.........witness the statement by Nortel that it could have doubled optics business had the supply been available last quarter. Also witness the explosive run up of optics plays like JDS, Sycamore, etc.

NT and CSCO would not be paying billions of dollars on unfinished products with 0 revenue IF they did not know that the optics network business is exploding.

This means that all valuation measures based on certain growth estimate of optics business is all out the window and the market as usual is ahead of the published report of revenue forecasts..........Roth said as much when he said NT will be exceeding their prior revenue estimates and in fact stated that even the increased projection is conservative -- and that if the supply problem doesn't get worse, NT will easily exceed even the lates rosy forecast.

In addition, Internet is exploding and no one knows what level of capacity is required to feed this hungry bandwidth beast that Internet/ECommerce has unleashed ---- which all points to quite an upside for anyone able to build high bandwidth networks. And NT is right in the thick of it all with the right combination of old-world know-how, implementation experience, and new-world IP capability.

NT has a long way to go before it slows down and lot of people will be surprised when the run-up has run it's course and catch up to the reality of what NT is doing in the market right NOW.
