Exixting Home Sales for Nov. = + 6.0% to 5.09m units

The seasonally adjusted annual rate* of existing-home sales rose 6.0 percent in November to 5.09 million units, bouncing back from a dip the previous month that left sales below the 5.0-million mark. Last month's resale level was 1.4 percent above the 5.02 unit rate recorded for November 1998.

CONSUMERS ANTICIPATE A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR
December 28…Consumer confidence rose again in December, reaching the second-highest reading ever posted in the 32-year history of The Conference Board's monthly Index.

The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index closed at 141.4 (1985=100), up from 137 in November. The Index' all-time high of 142.3 was registered in October 1968. The Present Situation Index climbed to 181.5, up from 176.8 in November. The Expectations Index, which has been an accurate barometer of future business trends, rose to 114.7, up from 110.4 in November.
