Visited AMES Natick store this morning.
In comparison to BRAD and SVCDQ, AMES had better merchandise turn over this x'mas; and more customers as I drove into the parking lot. All stores are busy shuffling shelves. Returns are over this morning (no lines at any store).
In the coming year, I expect mild limited upscaling at AMES. This X'mas soft lines were $19.95. Next year, some items will be $24.95 to $29.95. This of course will be for targeting 3% earnings on revenue. Quality improvement will be a treat for AMES customers, also. There isn't too much you can do in retailing when traffic is good.
Brighter lights, Cleaner store, and better customer relations from employees is about it. 3% profit business model still depends on buyers in the purchasing dept., to offer quality, availability(supply chain management) and variety. Most of all is price points to fit growing income of the loyal customers. Joe Ettore, you had it easy; lets see some cost cutting and pay up some loans again.
