The 10bn minutes per year breakeven is about 8c per minute. Not 5c. The capacity is not a set figure, but depends on gateway placement, global spread of use etc. Globalstar was cheaper to build than Iridium [including gateways and as a turnkey system] but excluding handsets. Globalstar is producing 10bn minutes a year, while Iridium can only produce 1.2bn minutes. The call quality is much better with Globalstar though coverage is much reduced [at present until gateways are fully built out over the next 5 years]. Maurice
