Steve,
This is a lesson I've had to learn over and over again: Never place a market order in a fast market. The MM's will screw you.

I've had level 2 and direct ECN access, never did very well with them because I got overstimulated by all the info. and too damn tempted to trade without good reason. Just be careful. I truly think that, unless you're daytrading, you can save yourself a lot of money by going with a good discount broker and place limit orders based on TA -- with excellent results.

Sorry for the rant.
