I suspect that there will probably be several thrusts early in the new year:

1. some profit taking by "traders" eager to do so early in the tax year.

2. inflow of funds stockpiled due to Y2K hysteria.

I'm amazed that so many otherwise rational people believe that these programs are bugfree other than Y2K bugs!!! A quadruple amputee would have enough digits to count the number of bugfree programs large enterprises have developed and are running in production.

3. Inflow of IRA, 401K, RRSP etc. funds.

4. Fund managers putting new cash to work.

5. Earnings season begins with dynamite results from the Xmas quarter.

6. Fear of the fed.

7. ...

i.e. business as usual.

Nothing's changed re the outlook for this sector. Most of the leaders will be selling for much higher prices a year from now than today. Finding a better place for one's money may not be so easy.

JMHO,
Ian.
