Canadian Business says in its Dec. 31 issue that a key distribution deal with Dell Computer could give
Research In Motion's co-chief executives a new headache: keeping up with demand. Writer Ian Austen
says that when Mike Urlocker, a technology hardware analyst with Scotia Capital, had some questions
for computer titan Michael Dell this past summer, they predictably exchanged thoughts by E-mail. The
twist in their communication, however, was that Mr. Dell did not peck out his replies on a Dell machine,
but a pager-sized BlackBerry wireless E-mail gadget made by Research In Motion. At the time, Mr.
Dell's choice struck Mr. Urlocker as interesting. In late November, its true significance became clear
when Dell disclosed that its mighty marketing machine would begin sell RIM's device to business users.
Mr. Urlocker, like many, was immediately impressed. "Dell is one hell of a sale and marketing
company. It knows its customers," says Mr. Urlocker.
