<Osha: This IA-64 ... is something that had been under development at H-P for a long time. So, Hewlett-Packard is looking at this ... and then Intel's looking around, thinking driving IA-32 into large-scale mission critical computing is never going to work. So, they get together and design something new, IA-64. It would be unrealistic to expect the very first version of this product to come out and perform well. In fact, it will probably only perform about as well, maybe even not as well, as a leading edge IA-32 processor. > Note the comments about IA64 performance compared to IA-32. Osha is beginning to catch on. These kind of perceptions could dampen any enthusiasm Intel may want to build into Merced launch.
