Stuart, I am interested in APA optics. I like some of the big players too, but like to have that one in a million shot to spice up my portfolio. BTW, I have no understanding of WDM technology.

Some serious not-intended-to-be argumentative questions:

1. You referred to the APA optics WDM receiver as a wannabe box. Why then did they make the cover of Fiber Optic Product News? Is this a no-name mag? Wouldn't it seem logical that they would feature something technically innovative on the cover? Does this magazine feature things on the cover from CIEN etc?

2. You also mentioned that vendors are going to be introducing 32-48 channel models. Does this mean that Ciena's 16 channel model is soon to be obsolete? Do you think they might have a new offering in the works?

3. How much more difficult is it to build a 16, 32, or 48 channel model than a 4 channel? Is it simply more expensive? Does it require significantly higher expertise?

4. What do you think the motivation would be for APAT to move from an R&D Co. to a manufacturer of WDM and offer a 4 channel model when the bigger players have more sophisticated offerings? Do you think that they simply want to capitalize on the expected hype that will surround WDM in the coming years to enhance their stock price?

5. What if anything do you know about APAT's patents? Are they worthwhile?

Thanks in advance. Anyone else who wants to jump in would be appreciated also, and you can answer me on the APAT thread if you feel that I'm getting off-topic. (Although I must say this thread isn't too lively).
