And then there was this in the Dallas Morning News today:
Conversion issue hypocrisy
If I remember correctly, the Southern Baptists were urging their followers to pray for the conversion of Jews, and others, during the Jewish High Holy Days. Of course the Jews, the Reform Jews included, were outraged and denounced this action as being among other things "hateful."
I was recently scanning the Associated Press wire Web site and came across a story of about how Reform Jews are being urged to convert their non-Jewish spouses to Judaism by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.
Now the first story was all over the news, included The Dallas Morning News, and the second one was hardly seen at all. I usually read The Dallas Morning News cover to cover and recall no mention of it.
I am not Jewish and I am not Southern Baptist but it seems a little hypocritical to denounce the praying for the conversion of Jews, and others, to Southern Baptists during the Jewish High Holy Days and then say it's OK to urge the conversion of non-Jewish spouses to Judaism during Christmas and then have to gall to say it's different.
I realize that the Reform Jews make up about one-fourth of the Jews in the United States and I also realize that all Baptists are not Southern Baptist. To be honest, I don't have a problem with religions trying to convert people from different religions. The thing I do have a problem with is hypocrisy and it seems to here we have a classic case.
