SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1997--Osicom Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIBR), a leading global provider of LAN, WAN and broadband networking solutions, today announced the introduction of several new high-performance, affordable 100Base-T Fast Ethernet hubs. Osicom offers these products as two separate lines, the OS-6000 and OS-6300, to satisfy consumer demand for faster networking in the small, and large or expanding office market segments. According to IDC, growth in the Fast Ethernet market is living up to its promise. Fast Ethernet hub port shipments increased over 450% in 1996, and 1997 should prove to be a healthy year for 100base-T hubs. The factors driving demand for this solution are heavy file transfers, power users that require a boost to 100 Mbps, and applications for which a dedicated 10 Mbps segment is not sufficient. "As our customers deploy Fast Ethernet, we now have the product solution ready for whatever environment they need. From the smallest cluster to the largest department, Osicom can support the drive for increased bandwidth and network size," said Ron Mackey, president of Osicom's Hub and Switch Division. The OS-6000 line, comprised of the OS-6008 and OS-6012 models, is designed as a cost-conscious small office or workgroup solution. These non-stackable hubs offer a flexible connectivity solution as they can be cascaded together to accommodate a larger workgroup. Linking two OS-6008 hubs permits a network of up to fourteen users, while two OS-6012's can support up to twenty-two users. Available now for volume shipments, the OS-6008 lists for $900 and the OS-6012 lists for $1,425. The OS-6300 line consists of the OS-6304, OS-6308 and OS-6312 models, all designed to satisfy network connectivity demands of large or expanding office environments. The OS-6300 line allows for the expansion of user connections without requiring an investment in a large chassis. The OS-6308 and OS-6312 hubs support stacks up to six units high and can network a total of 142 users on the same Fast Ethernet segment. A key feature shared by all OS-6300 models is extensive diagnostic LEDs, including network utilization monitors for examining network performance. Also, the OS-6312 model supports an optional fiber port providing connectivity to 100Base-F backbones. Pricing for the four-port OS-6304 is $450, the eight-port OS-6308 is $1,150, and the twelve-port OS-6312 is $1,675. All models are available now in volume shipments. "Our new family of hub products provide a solution for every stage of our customer's evolving network demands," continued Ron Mackey. "As people migrate from Ethernet and FDDI to Fast Ethernet and, in the near future Gigabit Ethernet, Osicom is providing hub and switch solutions for each step."
